A very rare Kreuzer of Ernst Georg von Hohenzollern

GERMANY. Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. Ernst Georg von Hohenzollern (1585-1625), Herr zu Krauchenwies. Kreuzer (Copper, 16 mm, 0.74 g), Krauchenwies (?), no date (1622). Round decorated Zollern shield, G 4 E above, all within wreath. Rev. Blank. Rutishauser 124b. Very rare. Extremely fine.

From the collection of Dr. Max Blaschegg (1930-2021, with collector’s ticket), acquired from J. Diller on 9 December 2002.

In his PhD thesis, Gerhard Schön suggests Krauchenwies, south of Sigmaringen, as kipper mint for this coin. Older attributions include Konstanz and Erolzheim .
